Dr. Jerry Cotner

Dr. Cotner's Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Cotner founded Ophthalmology Associates in 1968. He has a background in Biology and Chemistry from Northeastern Oklahoma State University (1955), and completed his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma (1959), where he also completed his internship (1960). He remained in general practice following the completion of his training and underwent training in USAF School of Aerospace Medicine.

In 1965, Dr. Cotner left general practice to began training in Ophthalmology. He completed his residency at UT Southwestern, and Harvard in 1968, and started Ophthalmology Associates.

Dr. Cotner has led a distinguished career in Ophthalmology. He is a Senior Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and has taught cataract surgery to residents for 33 years. He has been active in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, Texas Ophthalmologic Association, Dallas County Medical Society, and the Dallas Academy of Ophthalmology (where he served on the advisory board). In addition, Dr. Cotner is an active civic leader, having served as President of the Richardson Symphony and President of the Warrington on Turtle Creek Homeowners Association. He is an active member of the Dallas Safari Club, numerous wildlife conservation organizations, and the Dallas Museum of Art. Dr. Cotner's hobbies are: Hiking, Fishing, Hunting, Travel, Landscaping, and Dancing.
